Nicole Amenheuser, MS, LPC, NCC (she/her)

I value the collaboration between therapist and client, and believe a strong therapeutic relationship fosters growth. My focus is to provide a safe, affirming space while adding humor and personality to our sessions.

From treating various backgrounds, I know each person has their own unique experiences. I intentionally tailor my therapeutic approach to fit your individual needs. I pull from several evidence-based treatment modalities to create an effective, individualized approach for you.

Most importantly, my approach is rooted in being ‘you-centered.’ I strive for you to feel seen in our sessions and have autonomy for the treatment of your mental health.

Common therapy practices involve teaching coping skills for short-term relief, but I go beyond that. Coping skills can act as “band-aids”— they lessen our symptoms without addressing the deeper core issues and underlying beliefs. Together, we can understand, process, and treat the deeper roots of your concerns for a lasting impact on your life.

Experience

I hold a Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from West Chester University. I earned my certification as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors, and am licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania.

My time as Assistant Director to a university counseling center afforded me invaluable, extensive expertise with stress, identity development, depression, anxiety, OCD, body image, sexuality, and trauma. My experiences and passions extend to de-escalation, self-harm tendencies, panic attack reduction, and emotional regulation. I find immense reward working with college-aged and young adult population as they experience pivotal years of their lives.

My previous work as an Individual, Sex, & Couples Outpatient Therapist refined my clinical skills in sexuality, LGBTQIA2S+, women’s health, relational work, ethical non-monogamy, and trauma. I understand the harms of societal pressures, “norms,” and unhealthy relationships, and am passionate about challenging unhealthy perceptions of sex and empowering those with sexual concerns. More stigmatized topics are especially significant for me, such as pelvic pain (pain during sex) or pelvic floor concerns and sexual satisfaction.
